Mill
In 2010, at the request of the mothers of the village, the non-profit organisation installed a grain mill and entrusted its management to a local committee.
Thanks to this, women no longer have to spend hours pounding maize, millet, or cassava. This represents a considerable saving of time, which can now be devoted to economic activities, and it also gives children — who were often asked to help with this task — better opportunities to access education.
This mill, acquired in 2010 on the advice of the BTC-CTB, quickly inspired other initiatives, and the village of Lukunga soon gained the reputation of being ‘the village of the millers’.
Today, the non-profit organisation no longer manages the mill directly: it has been entrusted to the management committee, as the local craftsmen now fulfil this role even more effectively.
