Reconstruction of the maternity unit.

The maternity unit in the village of Lukunga is a building used exclusively for childbirth. It was built with traditional sun-dried earth blocks, without deep foundations. The current structure is at risk of collapsing. The construction of a new building with solid foundations is therefore essential and would provide a sustainable solution to meet the needs of the community.

The maternity unit is not only intended for expectant mothers from Lukunga: it also welcomes women from the entire region. It is not uncommon for some to walk for several days to give birth at the Lukunga health centre, because of the quality of care and support provided there. At the request of the village, this project has been taken on by the non-profit organisation in order to support its implementation.
